Helping Professionals Interview Series: Renee Wasserman of SleepyHeads Solutions

Renee Wasserman

We love to connect you with helpful resources for you and your St. Louis family! We recently spoke with Renee Wasserman of SleepyHeads Solutions about how she helps St. Louis families regain a good night of sleep with sleep training for infants and kids!

In our interview with Renee, you can learn more about why she transitioned from being a Physical Therapist to a sleep consultant, what parents can gain from working with her, and how to connect with her if your family is needing a specialized sleep plan!

Why did you choose to become an infant and child sleep consultant?

I discovered my passion for children’s sleep issues when my oldest daughter (now 21 years old!) would not sleep through the night. After reading countless sleep books by experts in the field, and many nights filled with tears, I successfully trained her (and my younger two daughters) to develop healthy sleep habits.

I quickly realized how important sleep was for my girls’ development and behavior. It was when word got around, and I became the go-to sleep guru for my friends, and friends of friends that I was inspired to start my own sleep consulting practice. I completed an extensive sleep-training program covering all aspects of baby and children’s sleep to become a certified infant and child sleep consultant through the Family Sleep Institute.

How long have you been providing sleep consultation?

I have been an infant/child sleep consultant for almost 15 years and prior to that I was a physical therapist for almost 20 years!

What ages do you work with?

I start official sleep training at 18 weeks old and work with children up to 10 years of age. That being said, I will work with parents of newborns to help them start establishing a healthy sleep foundation.

What can parents expect to leave with after working with you?

A child who sleeps independently through the night!! (and a full night sleep for mom and dad, too!)

Who are your favorite types of clients to work with?

My favorite clients are families who are committed to the process and will be consistent with whatever plan we craft during our initial consultation. As far as age groups, I love them all, but I have a soft spot for toddlers.

What happens during a first appointment with you?

The free 10-minute introduction call is an opportunity for me to hear about a family’s sleep challenges and tell them about my approaches to sleep training, realistic expectations, and the sleep packages that I offer.

During the consultation, (1 hour call) we will then craft and strategize a plan to teach independent sleep skills to their child while also looking at the sleep environment, routine and schedule.

When would you refer a client out?

If there are any medical red flags, I will always recommend that parents check with their pediatrician.
